If you shop you can probably get the cheapest prices on UAD-2 cards. I can always put the UAD-1's in another computer and play with it until it works again or not. But, you get access to some of the best, most sought after professional plug-ins on the planet and the customer care is second to none Of course, unlike most native plugins which are cracked and everyone has them, with the UAD-2 platform you do have to pay to play. I can rountinely use 40,50,60 or 100 UAD-2 plug-ins in REAPER 4 with full PDC low latencies (128, 64) and Anticipative FX processing enabled without any issues. Plus, unlike the UAD-1 drivers, the UAD-2 drivers work like a charm with REAPER. The real kicker is the UAD-2 technology simply blows away the old UAD-1 by a wide margin it ain't even funny. I remember paying over $1600 for (3) UAD-1 cards (2004-2006) and now you can get the same amout of DSP power of three UAD-1 cards, in a single SOLO.

Get a QUAD and get the EMT-250, FATSO & Studer A800 ($349) all for free (nearly $900 in plug-ins). Purchase a DUO and get the EMT-250 and the FATSO ($299) for free. Buy a SOLO and get the EMT-250 plug-in free ($249), plus you get a $50 plug-in voucher. With the current UA promotions the card is practically free. Speaking of UAD-2, you can now pickup a SOLO card for around $340US, if you shop around. Of course, once the UAD-2 was launched and the UAD-1 discontinued the price dropped precipitously, where now you can pick-up a used UAD-1 for $100. That was when they were coming out with the new PCIe versions. I subsequently purchased (3) more UAD-1 cards (2004-2006) and the cheapest price I could find at the time for a card was $550.
I purchased my first UAD PCI card (a Mackie) back in 2002 and the card was $595 bucks and that was the sale price. Nah, new UAD cards were never that cheap. What used to cost 300 bucks is now what, double that? for a single piece of hardware?
